When I first heard Gwen mention “Girlfriend” on the WIN email list, she was talking about her being a great dog for another WIN member. I thought she sounded like the absolute perfect wheaten – almost too good to be true. I talked to Gwen about letting us foster her in order to see about our family’s compatibility with the breed.
Gwen graciously agreed. Unbeknownst to me, the WIN member that Gwen had in mind had her heart set on a puppy. Lucky for us, because we fell in love with this sweetheart the minute we met her. When Abbey (who didn’t seem to mourn the loss of the name “Girlfriend”) first arrived, she would not jump onto any furniture and showed some signs of a rather strict, harsh owner. But she soon conquered her fears and learned that a lap is the best place to be. She also didn’t appear to know what a walk or leash was, but now, we better be ready to go at the set time or she “dogs” us until we are! Abbey is such a delight to us. I often marvel at the fact that someone actually willingly gave her up. She is sweet, loving, and mellow – always up for a belly rub or to give out an ear wash. Thank God for Gwen and WIN for allowing this adorable little girl to become ours!
